WHAT ARE EPA QUAT REQUIREMENTS?

In order to be an EPA Registered Quaternary Ammonium Compounds  Disinfectant (QUAT for short), the product must contain a minimum of 4% QUAT.  This product contains 8.45%.  It is highly concentrated, requiring only 1 ounce of concentrate to turn a gallon of water into a gallon of disinfectant.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

QUAT based disinfectants carry a positive charge.  Bacteria, viruses and fungi carry a negative charge.  When a bacteria-laden surface is sprayed or mopped, the charge distribution of the bacteria cell changes from negative to positive, stripping them of their lipid envelope.  This prevents them from penetrating cells, thus disrupting the bacteria wall and killing the microbe.
